From cross-country trucking hauls to local construction projects, Teletrac Navman's fleet management solutions provides customers with the data they need to stay on schedule, reduce costs, and manage their assets and resources. Through valuable data analysis and powerful technology, Teletrac Navman give customers critical insights into their businesses. For companies that manage a mobile workforce, for example, Teletrac Navman provides a landscape view of their operations, enabling them to operate more safely, reduce fuel emissions, and save money at the same time.
"We become an indispensable extension of our clients' daily operations, helping guide them toward more confident business decisions," says Tariq Ahmed, Director, Software Engineering.
The transportation landscape is evolving incredibly fast, notes Ahmed. "Vehicles have become sophisticated computers on wheels, and there are waves of technology coming in which aim to harness both the interactions with these smart machines and the value of the underlying data that they are generating by creating insight in order to drive action. The digitization of the transportation ecosystem has made it such that information travels and fluctuates similar to that of the stock market. Thus the ability to make smart decisions fast has become paramount to survival in the world of our customers, and those that can capitalize on technology are going to be the ones that win."
Teletrac Navman is poised to ride those waves, and help its customers come out on the side of success. The firm's flagship platform, DIRECTOR, services hundreds of thousands of vehicles around the globe, while catering to the unique needs and demands of different customers in many different countries. One of DIRECTOR's many noteworthy features includes a robust safety solution. The DIRECTOR safety solution allows fleet managers and safety officers to keep tabs on driver safety behavior such as heavy braking, speeding, and driving too long using video-based and other data. The safety solution intercepts small problems before they become big ones and creates "coaching moments" that reinforce safe driving behavior.
"One of the biggest challenges any company that manages a fleet of trucks faces is driver retention, and a big factor to that safety," says Ahmed. "It is inherently a dangerous job for a driver to pull upwards of eighty thousand pounds. At the end of the day, the drivers just want to get safely home to their families. So when they work for a company that takes safety seriously, it's meaningful."
In order to fulfil its vision and mission, Teletrac Navman views its services as a deeply integrated extension of its customers' lifecycle. That requires understanding its customers, and ultimately guiding them on how to maximize the value of their investment, according to Ahmed. "As an example, we'll periodically fly groups of software and quality engineers out to customer locations, sometimes distant ones, in order to see the world of the customer through the customer's eyes, and the problems that they're trying to solve. This also has the added benefit of creating more customer advocates within our engineering community."
Much of Teletrac Navman's Software Engineering department is located at its Hacienda office, which has 35 employees working on research and development. "The teams here are generally focused on our core platform, as well as functioning as a center of excellence where the team applies the most modern and innovative techniques and technologies available when tackling new initiatives," notes Ahmed.
Teletrac Navman has offices throughout the world. The Hacienda office contributes to a variety of local charities, including periodically providing volunteers for Open Heart Kitchen. The company was originally founded in New Zealand and eventually moved its headquarters to the United States.
